Undesrstanding Human Relationships- Types and Beliefs
Every person focuses on his/her relationship with the opposite sex and terms it as a ‘love relationship’. But, talking about this love thing is so mainstream these days. Go ahead to think of the other relationships that require your equal attention or even more. They must have given you much more prospects than your love life.
Every person is attached initially to his family in infancy and then in childhood. However, this relationship takes different turns as you grow up and encounter many other social roles, like friendship, romantic relationship, professional relationship, etc. Every kind of relationship has its own peak time and downfall.
It is not necessarily required for one particular relationship to remain important throughout your life. There will be times when you will need your parents more, and then there will be times when you will need your partner more and the like.
There are 5 major kinds of relationship trends that you follow in a life span: –
The first form of attachment that you derive is from your family. You find a caregiver in your family and he/she helps you with all the childhood tasks that you can’t perform independently. The amount of attention that a caregiver gives to a child’s problems, issues, etc. account for the level of attachment a child will have with that person in later years of life.
The first schema of a child also depends on the family, how they show him the world. But, later on he may face discrepancies about what he already knows and what he encounters in the later years. The child’s initial personality is based on the family environment.
For example- if the family is democratic, he is likely to be amiable, creative, etc. and vice versa if the family is authoritarian. Family plays the most important role in infancy and childhood and later on the importance decreases due to the rise of the peer group.
Next important role is played by peer groups. These are your playmates of your own age group. You give the importance to the peer group from your elementary school. This importance ceases in the adolescence period as the child turns anti-social. But, after the period of puberty the important relationship begins again.
The peer group’s importance at one point of time dominates so much that a person evaluates the peer group above the family. The peer group and the relationship with the peer group should be handled wisely as the peers may sometimes drag you into trouble.
This lovey-dovey state marks the relationship of a person with his/her romantic partner. This relationship may end up in marriage if started with a committed and positive note. Else, it can leave its bad scars on the life of a person if he/she faces something that breaks him/her completely.
This is the last type of relationship and may turn out to be the most demanding one. Because it is based on professional commitments. You’re being paid off for your work and so you are expected to lend you best service to the institution that you’re associated with. This relationship turns very important for the people who are looking for their career.
These are some really important relationship roles that you have to play at different times of your life. You should be very clear about what you want from your relationship? What you need to lend to the opposite party for the same? This helps in smooth functioning of the relationship.
