What kind of cells does the human body is made up of?

Cell is the building block of the human body.

It is smallest unit of life that together form tissues. There are many types of cells present in the body of a human based on their structure, location and function. Given below are many types of cells found in the human body: –

Blood Cells

Blood Cells are present in the blood and performs the function of carrying the essential nutrients and oxygen to the different parts of the body. There are 3 types of Blood Cells:

  1. Red Blood Cells (Erythrocytes)
  2. White Blood Cells (Leukocytes)
  3. Platelets (Thrombocytes)

Fat Cells

Fat Cells or Adipocytes or Lipocytes store energy in the form of fat in the body. They together form Adipose Tissue. There are mainly 2 types of Adipose Tissue:

  1. Brown Adipose Tissue (BAT)
  2. White Adipose Tissue (WAT)

Stem Cells

Stem Cells mainly functions as repairing and replacement of cells. There are mainly 2 types of Stem Cells:

  1. Embryonic Stem Cells
  2. Adult Stem Cells

Endothelial Cells

These cells are present in the inner layer of Blood Vessels and Lymphatic Vessels as they protect them from damage. Based on their position, Endothelial cells are of 2 types:

  1. Vascular Endothelial Cells (present below the surface of Blood Vessels)
  2. Lymphatic Endothelial Cells (present below the surface of Lymph Vessels)

Cancer/Tumor Cells

These are abnormal cells that multiply persistently in the body of a living being. The process of Cell Division usually leads to production of 2 daughter cells. But in case of Tumor cells, they continue to divide and produce multiple daughter cells.

Nerve Cells

Nerve Cells are found in the nervous system of the body. It comprises of Dendrites, Cell Body and Axon. There are 3 types of Nerve Cells based on the number of extensions such as:

  1. Unipolar Neurons
  2. Bipolar Neurons
  3. Multipolar Neurons

Sex Cells

These cells are mainly responsible for sexual reproduction of an individual. Sex cells or gametes are present in both males and females. They are of 2 types:

  1. Male Sex Cells or Sperm Cells
  2. Female Sex Cells or Ova or Eggs

Skin Cells

Skin is the largest organ of the body and skin cells function by protecting the body organs and are arranged in layers. They are of 4 different types such as:

  1. Keratinocytes
  2. Melanocytes
